Goat Rules 2024

  1. The UWRF Prospect Weekend goat show is open to any individual 21 and under as of January 1, 2024.  2.Entry Fee is $20.00/Goat/Show. Payment needs to be submitted via Showman or Cash/ Check during Check-in on the day of the shows. No refunds will be given for those that pay through Showman.   

  2. Check-in is Saturday, April 27th from 8:00-9:30am. No Exceptions. 

  3. The UWRF Block and Bridle Prospect Weekend Meat Goat Shows will follow the 2024 JWMGA Rules & Regulations (Show A will be sanctioned; Show B will NOT be sanctioned) 

  4. Market Does/Wethers will be shown together by weight and weighed-in during Check-In. Weights will be recorded as animals go across the scale. Please have your paperwork prepared.  

  5. Breeding Does and Bucks will not need to be weighed in as they will be shown by age of animal. Classes for each will follow the breakdown listed below the conclusion of the rules. 

  6. USDA Scrapie tags are required on all goats or registration papers must be shown with tattoos and/ or microchip.  

  7. There is no limit to the number of animals entered by one person.  

  8. Does shown in the market goat class cannot be shown in a breeding doe class. 

  9. Judge or Show Chairs may split classes into heats as necessary.  

  10. All market goats must be clipped.  

  11. Showmanship classes will be prior to the start of the 1st animal class of Show A. The order will be Senior, Junior, Pee Wee. 

  12. Ages for Showmanship will be as of January 1st, 2024. Class Age breaks as follows:  Peewee: 8 years old & under, Junior: 9-13 years old, Senior: 14-21 years old 

  13. If there are ≥12 show persons in one showmanship class, the class will be divided into heats. The heats will be split by the following breaks:

  14. Peewee: Heat A: 6 & under ,Heat B: 7-8 years old 

  15. Junior: Heat A: 9-11 years old, Heat B: 12-13 years old 

  16. Senior: Heat A: 14-16 years old, Heat B: 17-21 years old 

  17. We encourage exhibitors to wear the UWRF Prospect Weekend shirts during showmanship.  

  18. Out of state goats must present health papers meeting WI requirements. Visit     http://www.datcp.state.wi.us for more information.  Visit DATCP for ID rules and other current health requirements. All out of state goats must have health papers and be identified as “Disease Free”. Health papers must be present at the time of check-in.  

  19. Goats with any abscesses, ringworm, warts, sore mouth, or exhibiting any sign of illness will not be allowed to show. Animals deemed unruly, unsafe, or dangerous will be asked to leave the grounds. 

  20. You are responsible for getting to the show ring on time. We will make barn calls, but we will not search for you in the barn.  

  21. The UWRF Prospect Weekend Committee is not liable for injuries or losses.  

 

 

Breeding Doe and Buck classes will be split by and run in the order of the following age breaks: 

Junior Division: 

  1. 0 to under 3 months 

  2. 3 to under 6 months 

  3. 6 to under 9 months 

  4. 9 to under 12 months 

  5. Junior Division Reserve & Grand Champion 

Yearling Division: 

  1. 12 to under 16 months 

  2. 16 to under 20 months 

  3. 20 to under 24 months 

  4. Yearling Division Reserve & Grand Champion 

Senior Division: 

  1. 24 to under 36 months 

  2. 36 months and over 

  3. Senior Division Reserve & Grand Champion 

  4. Overall Reserve & Grand Champion
